Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

In The Stars (inthestars.co.uk) is an independent editorial website operated by James, based in England. James is responsible for how personal data is handled on this site. You can contact us at hello@inthestars.co.uk.

2. What We Collect

We collect very little about you directly. If you subscribe to the Celestial Dispatch newsletter, we receive your email address. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message.

When you browse the site, our analytics and advertising partners may collect information such as your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you view and how you arrived at the site. For visitors in the UK and EEA this only happens with your consent, apart from the strictly necessary technologies described below.

3. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Strictly necessary. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which may set security cookies to protect the site from abuse. These do not require consent.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. For visitors in the UK and EEA, Google Analytics does not set cookies unless you consent. We also use Ahrefs Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and only produces aggregate statistics.

Advertising. This site does not currently work with a third-party advertising network. If that changes, we will update this policy and the Advertising Partners section below before any advertising cookies are used, and for visitors in the UK and EEA these will only be used with your consent.

Newsletter and embedded content. The newsletter signup form is provided by Beehiiv. Videos embedded from YouTube use its privacy-enhanced mode, which does not set cookies until you play a video.

4. Your Cookie Choices

When you first visit the site you are asked for your consent through a banner. You can accept, or choose Manage Settings, where you can reject all non-essential cookies or decide by purpose. To change your choice later, click the settings button at the side of any page to reopen the banner.

5. How We Use Your Information

We use your email address to send the newsletter you signed up for and to reply to messages you send us. We use analytics data to understand which articles people read and to improve the site. Advertising partners use data as described in their own policies, within the choices you make in the consent banner.

6. Who We Share Data With

We do not sell personal data. We rely on a small number of service providers to run the site: Cloudflare (hosting and security), CookieYes (cookie consent management), Beehiiv (newsletter) and Google (analytics). Some of these providers are based outside the UK, so your data may be processed abroad under their own safeguards.

7. How Long We Keep It

Newsletter email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry. Analytics data is kept according to the retention settings of the analytics provider.

8. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to its use and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@inthestars.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. See also our Terms & Conditions.

10. Advertising Partners

This site does not currently have any third-party advertising partners. If we begin working with an advertising network, this section will be updated to name that partner and explain how they use cookies and similar technologies, in line with their own required disclosures.
